FIVE TRAVEL TIPS FOR SPEEDY & STRESS-FREE TRAVEL
According to the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, over 14 million travelers passed through LaGuardia’s Central Terminal Building last year. With higher numbers predicted for this year, Lillian Tan, General Manager & Vice President of MarketPlace Development, the company that manages the Food & Shops marketplace, offers her top five ’Do’s and Don’ts’ for a speedy and stress-free experience.
DO Arrive Early
Travelers should allow 1½ to 2 extra hours at the airport during busy travel periods as it may take more time to maneuver through long lines and security. When making your travel plans take into consideration that the busiest days of travel are typically Friday and Sunday. Also, to save time when you arrive, skip the check-in line and print out your boarding pass online before you head to the airport.
Relax DON’T stress over flight delays
Heavy traffic and weather can create delays for travelers meaning extra time between flights. Use this opportunity as a mini-break. Airports retailers such as Brookstone allow travelers to test out their in-store massage chairs for a relaxing chair massage.
DO be carry-on savvy
- Food, including beverages, purchased post-security CAN be taken onto the plane.
- Don’t worry if you forgot to pack the proper sized toiletries in your carry on bag. Check out the shops in the airport for salvation. The Body Shop, for instance, offers a special travel sized selection of soaps and lotions for travelers. They also offer a free re-sealable plastic bag.
- Not sure what you can carry-on, check on www.tsa.gov before you pack your bags.
DO ‘Grab & Go’ before you take off if your airline does not offer an in-flight meal
Airport food is not what it used to be. A majority of airports now feature an array of eateries and restaurants for travelers to grab a pre-flight meal. Not enough time to sit and enjoy your food, many places now serve their tasty menu options in special ‘grab and go’ containers for you to take on the plane.
DON’T forgot to pack travel entertainment
If you forgot to pack something to keep yourself or your children occupied during your travels, then seek out the terminal’s newsstand or see if the airport offers a bookstore such as Border’s to pick up a new magazine or book before you take off. Stores like InMotion Entertainment offer travelers a selection of CDs, DVDs and audio accessories. InMotion also offers travelers the option to rent a movie and the player (if needed) that can be return via mail or at any InMotion store in the US.
